Anti-wrinkle injections contain a chemical called botulinum toxin A which relaxes the muscles that cause facial expressions. As we get older, we naturally develop wrinkles and sagging because of genetic predisposition and loss of collagen in the skin as well as the long-term effect of sun exposure, natural gravity and excessive facial expressions. How Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Work?

Containing the botulinum toxin A, anti-wrinkle injections block nerve signals to the facial muscles, which leads to decreased muscle movement in the areas of the face where wrinkles usually form. Decreased muscle movements put less stress on the skin, which help with maintaining a fresh and youthful look.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used in different parts of the face with frequent muscle movements. They proved to be successful in reducing the following types of wrinkles:

  • Forehead wrinkles (deep, horizontal lines on forehead)
  • Frown lines (deep and vertical lines between the eyebrows)
  • Crows feet (wrinkles at the side of eyes)
  • Bunny lines (horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines on the nose)
  • Under-eye lines
  • Downturned mouth (at Depressor Anguli Oris muscles region)
  • Neck bands (vertical and horizontal neckbands)

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

  • This treatment is measured in ‘units’ rather than mls (which is what dermal filler treatments are measured in).
  • Treatments can be used to reduce the appearance of gums when smiling (also known as the gummy smile) as well dimpling around the chin and nasal lines when you smile (called bunny lines).
  • Relaxing the masseter muscle in the jaw reduces teeth grinding (bruxism) and can also achieve a slimmer jaw look. When combined with a treatment to relax the temporalis muscle, this can help alleviate the tension and pain felt in the jaw joint in patients with Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD).
  • Anti-wrinkle treatment can reduce excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the armpit area and forehead area. This treatment can last 6-12 months so really useful in the summer months!
  • This treatment can also be used to tighten and redefine the neck and jawline for an elegant and more youthful appearance through a ‘Nefertiti Neck Lift’.
  • Treatments usually last around 3-6 months depending on the area treated.
  • Some swelling is common and this usually takes a few hours to settle.
  • There is usually no downtime and most people can carry on their day as usual after the treatment.
  • You are required to have written clearance from a neurologist for conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis, Eaton Lambert Syndrome and Multiple Sclerosis to have anti-wrinkle treatments.

Before Treatment

Usually, the procedure consists of the initial consultation, the procedure itself, and the follow-up.

During the initial consultation, we try to gather all relevant information about your skin condition and rule out allergies and other potential medical conditions that will make this procedure unsafe. Also, we discuss your beauty goals and propose a customised anti-wrinkle treatment if you are a good candidate.

Anti-wrinkle injections are not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with neuromuscular disorders, people with infections or inflammations at the target areas, and people with bleeding disorders.

During Treatment

During the procedure, the targeted area is cleansed, and a numbing cream is applied to minimise discomfort. A series of small injections are made on the target area, so a brief pinching sensation can occur. The procedure is relatively pain-free and quick with minimum downtime.

After Treatment

The results after the treatment can be visible in less than a week, and can last around 3 to 6 months, but the exact number can vary depending on the area treated. Since the results of the treatment are not permanent, you will need additional treatments to maintain your results.

Immediately after the treatment, you might experience some swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness in the treatment area, which is normal. Usually, the side effects go away in a few days.

However, some complications can occur, but they are very rare. Some patients may experience nausea, temporary numbness, headaches, or blurred vision. In case such complications occur, it’s always advised to see a doctor.

General advice for proper aftercare would include:

  • Avoiding vigorous exercise and heavy alcohol consumption in the first 24 hours after the treatment
  • Avoiding touching the treated area until the side effects go away
  • Avoiding sleeping on the treated part of your face and any other pressure until healed
  • Avoiding sunlight, sauna, peels, massages, and other facial treatments until fully healed.

For most patients, the procedure is painless, except a quick pinching sensation that occurs when the needle is injected to the skin.

The procedure is considered safe, although some mild side effects can occur, such as bruising, swelling, and redness in the treated area.

It’s usually recommended to repeat the treatment every 3 to 6 months, before the muscle movements in the target area return to normal.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections cannot be reversed immediately. The effects of anti-wrinkle injections wear off gradually in 3 to 6 months.

This is a common concern for many patients. However, our extensive professional experience has shown it’s not the case, as the injections are carefully inserted into the targeted area and the risk of facial paralysis is minimal.

Terms & Conditions for Cosmetic Injectables (provided by Misk Beauty)

Please take a few moments to read these Terms and Conditions carefully prior to booking your appointment. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing info@miskbeauty.com.au. 

  • All clients must be 18 years or older.
  • We do not offer treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • All clients will be asked to complete a signed consent form detailing all the risks involved in the treatment before any treatment can be performed. By signing the consent form, you agree that you have read and understood the risks involved and that the clinic will not be liable for any complications or dissatisfaction you might have from the treatment.
  • Our doctors will photograph you pre and post treatment for your clinical record. These images are kept private and are for record keeping purposes only, in line with legislation.
  • We may be required to share your personal and medical information with other experts (such as our insurance or legal team) only where necessary, and you will be informed of this prior to this happening.
  • All payments must be made in full at the clinic on the day of treatment.
  • The doctor may wish to share the before and after images through our social media channels. If this happens, you will always be asked for consent prior. A social media release consent form will be given to you in clinic, which will detail the full agreement. You can decline this if you wish to.
  • In the unlikely event that you are dissatisfied with your treatment, you may be asked to attend a review appointment to discuss this with one of our doctors in person. Further treatments, including corrective treatments are not obligatory and may be charged. Dissatisfaction will not constitute grounds for a refund.
  • Our staff may communicate with you via phone, email, text or social media (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) for bookings or to provide continuity of care where applicable. If you do not wish to be contacted then please indicate this in writing to info@miskbeauty.com.au
  • Our doctors reserve the right to refuse treatment to any patient for any reason should they believe it is not in their patient’s best interest.

 

  • A minimum deposit of $100 is required for all 15 minute appointments and this must be paid via a deposit link online or directly over the phone. Unfortunately, we are unable to hold any appointments without a deposit payment under any circumstance.
  • It is the client’s duty to inform us of any changes in contact details. Misk Beauty will endeavour to send confirmations for booked appointments via text or email, however this may not always be possible (for example, if the email address is incorrectly recorded).
  • Deposits are non-refundable but redeemable against the cost of any treatment. If you choose not to have a treatment, the deposit will be redeemable as the cost of your consultation.
  •  

 

  • If you wish to cancel your appointment you must do this at least 3 business days in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays) and you will receive a refund of your deposit minus the transaction administration cost. If you cancel any later than this or fail to attend your appointment, you will lose your deposit.
  • If you wish to reschedule 3 business days prior to your appointment, your deposit will be kept on file and carried over to secure your new appointment. If you reschedule any later than the 3 business days’ notice period, you will lose your deposit and a new deposit will be required to make another appointment.

 

  • If you are going to be arriving late, please do let us know in advance where possible. If you arrive within 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment, we will treat you in the remaining time allocated. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will be classed as a no show and you will lose your deposit.

 

  • Please note that we do not offer refunds on any aesthetic procedures.

 

  • The purpose of the complaints policy is to ensure that any problem, concern or grievance you have about our services or products is properly dealt with. Should you have any complaint which you are unable to resolve on an informal basis, you should raise it in the first instance with our Medical Directors, Dr Husam Ria and Dr Mais Ria. The complaint must be in writing and should be sent via email to info@miskbeauty.com.au. Our Medical Directors or any other person authorised by our Medical Directors will investigate and respond to the complaint, in writing, within 28 days from the date on which the complaint is received. Any complaint received during non-business hours will be deemed to be received on the next working day.

 

  • Children are welcome into our clinic waiting area; however, we regret that our staff members are unable to supervise children during treatments. Please could we kindly ask that you do not bring your children along to your appointment with us unless they are being supervised by another adult.
  • Children will not be allowed into treatment rooms for health & safety reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
