At Skin Correctives in Shellharbour, we offer permanent hair removal using two of the world’s leading electrolysis technologies: Apilus XCell Pro and Multi-Probe Galvanic electrolysis. Unlike laser and IPL, electrolysis does not rely on pigment within the hair, so it can permanently treat every hair colour and every skin tone, including white, grey, blonde, red, dark and fine hairs that other hair-removal methods cannot serve.
Offering two advanced and complementary modalities allows our electrologists to tailor your treatment to your hair type, skin type, follicle characteristics, treatment area, sensitivity and previous hair-removal history.
Apilus XCell Pro Electrolysis
The Apilus XCell Pro is one of the most advanced computerised electroepilation systems available. It operates at an ultrafast frequency of 27.12 MHz, up to eight times faster than conventional electrolysis frequencies, delivering highly controlled energy with speed and precision.
During treatment, an ultra-fine sterile probe is carefully inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. Precisely controlled energy is then delivered to target the structures responsible for hair growth, allowing the treated hair to be lifted away without pulling or plucking.

Multi-Probe Galvanic Electrolysis
Multi-Probe Galvanic electrolysis is an established and highly effective method of permanent hair removal that works through a gentle electrochemical process inside the hair follicle.
During treatment, multiple ultra-fine sterile probes are carefully inserted into individual follicles. A gentle direct current works with the naturally occurring moisture and salt within each follicle to create a small amount of sodium hydroxide, traditionally known as lye. Because this action disperses through the follicle’s own moisture, it reaches the structures responsible for future hair growth thoroughly.
That thoroughness makes Multi-Probe Galvanic particularly valuable for coarse, deep, curved or distorted follicles, including hairs that have been repeatedly tweezed, waxed or previously treated with laser. Because multiple follicles can be treated at the same time, the treatment action is given time to develop fully while improving on the efficiency of traditional single-probe galvanic electrolysis.

Karen Meiring de Gonzalez is the Director and Principal Electrologist at Skin Correctives, leading the clinic’s electrolysis services, treatment standards and practitioner education. Internationally qualified, she has been practising electrolysis since 1991, holds a Diploma in Advanced Electrolysis and has completed more than 200 hours of advanced training with Dectro International, the creators of the Apilus XCell Pro.
As Principal Electrologist, Karen oversees the training and development of the Skin Correctives electrolysis team, so that every treatment is delivered to the clinic’s standards of technical skill, safety, precision and client care.
Karen is also the Founder and Senior Advisor of the Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council’s (ABIC) Electrology Division, and in January 2025 she organised and hosted Australia’s inaugural Electrology Symposium in Sydney on behalf of ABIC.
